Identification keys
Identification keys are accessible from the Side Menu → Identification Keys. This menu entry only appears if the project includes at least one key. In the Taxonomic Tree view individual taxa may be marked with a small clickable key icon next to their name, indicating they are part of a key.
The key list
All available keys are shown as cards, each displaying:
- A title and optional description.
- A Taxa Included footer showing how many taxa the key covers.
Tap a card to start that key.
Inside a key
Each step presents a set of choices as cards. Tap a choice to advance to the next step.
Your path so far is shown above the current choices as a history of answered steps - tap any past choice to go back and revise it. Backtracking resets the key to the broader reachable set from that point.
When all choices lead to a final result, the identification is shown. If that result is the entry point of another key, a Continue to [Key Name] button takes you directly into the next key - this is how keys are chained together for species-rich groups.
Taxa included footer
Every key card shows a Taxa Included (X / Y) footer, where X is the number of taxa still reachable at the current step and Y is the total covered by the key. As you make choices, X decreases.
Tap any taxon chip in the footer to jump directly to the sequence of choices that identifies it - useful when you already suspect the identity and want to verify the path.
Live checklist integration
As you navigate a key, the main checklist filter automatically narrows to show only the taxa still in play given your choices so far. Useful for example vhile you are viewing the Taxonomic Tree. Backtracking to an earlier step widens the filter accordingly.
